Prime Minister Daniel Risch traveled to Berlin from 5 to 6 June 2024 for several working meetings and media appointments. The purpose of his visit was to strengthen good relations with Germany and to exchange expertise in the areas of finance, digitalization and humanitarian aid.
Meeting with Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner
On Wednesday, June 5, Prime Minister Daniel Risch met with his counterpart, Minister of Finance Christian Lindner (FDP), at the Federal Ministry of Finance for a bilateral meeting. The talks focused on the global minimum taxation of large companies, the fight against financial crime, Liechtenstein's accession to the International Affairs Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence in the financial sector. Prime Minister Daniel Risch emphasized that Liechtenstein and Germany work very closely together in the fight against financial crime, particularly in the area of money laundering. The two countries also work well together in the area of international tax cooperation. Liechtenstein's planned accession to the IMF was received very positively by the German side.
Meeting with the Digital Committee in the Bundestag
A meeting was then held in the Bundestag with the Chair of the Digital Committee, Tabea Rössner (Alliance 90/The Greens), and other members of the committee. He exchanged views on various European and national topics in the field of digitalization and explained the status of digitalization in Liechtenstein. Another focus was on the federal government's strategic international digital policy. The Chair of the Committee and Prime Minister Risch agreed that a close bilateral exchange on these key issues between like-minded countries was necessary and valuable in order to find good solutions to the challenges together.
Background discussion in the ARD capital city studio
At the invitation of Alternate Deputy Prime Minister Matthias Deiss, Prime Minister Risch held a background discussion with several journalists in the ARD capital studio this afternoon. The discussion focused in particular on the understanding of politics in Liechtenstein, the Economic Affairs Division, finance and digitalization and Liechtenstein's role in Europe. Prime Minister Risch was once again able to show how Liechtenstein, as a small state, is positively engaged internationally.
Meeting with Minister of the Chancellery Wolfgang Schmidt
Prime Minister Daniel Risch met with Chancellery Minister Wolfgang Schmidt (SPD) at the Federal Chancellery on June 6. The meeting focused on current geopolitical issues such as aid to Ukraine, the Gaza war, Russia's disinformation campaigns and their impact on the European and national elections as well as the topics of digitalization and AI and their impact on politics and society. Prime Minister Risch also reported on the experiences of Liechtenstein's chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe over the past six months.
