Protocol of the Government
The Protocol of the Government (PRFL) is the competent body for matters of protocol as well as ceremonial in the Principality of Liechtenstein and is a division of the Office of the Government Chancellery, which reports directly to the Collegial Government. The ongoing supervision is exercised by the Prime Minister. The PRFL organises and executes protocol events of the Princely House, the Government, the Parliament, and the highest courts. The remit of the protocol office also includes looking after the diplomatic and consular corps, maintaining and updating the list with the order of precedence and the organisation of other official functions in Liechtenstein.
Organisation of visits, conferences and other events
The Protocol organises visits of foreign heads of state, members of government, presidents of parliaments, presidents of provincial chambers and presidents of the highest courts as well as conferences with their participation in Liechtenstein. The PRFL is also responsible for a number of other events such as the swearing-in ceremonies of the parliament, the government, the heads of municipalities, judges, mediators and police officers, the Young Citizens' function, the annual meeting with former members of the government, anniversaries, memorial days, inaugurations, and funerals at the highest level.
Services for the diplomatic and consular corps
Furthermore, the Protocol acts as the point of contact for over 100 embassies in the Principality of Liechtenstein (whose seat is mainly in Switzerland) and around 40 foreign consular representations in Liechtenstein. It oversees the accreditation and dismissal of their diplomatic staff as well as the granting of the exequatur and assists in the planning of events for the diplomatic and consular corps.
