Transcription of foreign driver's license
All EU/EEA driver's licenses are recognized in Liechtenstein and do not need to be exchanged, provided that there are no changes on the document due to the move. Nevertheless, we kindly ask you to deposit a copy of your driver's license at the Office of Road Traffic.
If you wish or if there are any changes on your driver's license, you can exchange your ID card. To do so, please submit the following documents to the Office of Road Traffic
- Completely filled out application form including eye test
- Original foreign driver's license
The exchanged driver's license will be confiscated and returned to the issuing authority.
General
All holders of a driver's license of the states not listed below must pass a check ride at the Office of Road Traffic . The following documents are required for this:
- Application form incl. eye test (without emergency helper card)
- German translation of the foreign driver's license from a recognized translation agency
Exempt are holders of driver's licenses from an EU/EFTA state:
Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus
as well
Andorra, Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, Korea (Republic of), Croatia, Morocco, Monaco, New Zealand, San Marino, Singapore, Tunisia, USA.
All countries not listed must complete a control trip
Foreign driver's licenses with professional categories (category C, C1 and D, D1)
No control drive but a theory test for professional driving motor vehicles must be completed for driver's licenses from:
Andorra, Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, Korea (Republic), Croatia, Morocco, Monaco, New Zealand, San Marino, Singapore, Tunisia, USA.

Exchange CH driver's license / driver's license on probation (FAP)
The driver's license must be exchanged within 14 days of taking up residence. For this you must submit the following documents:
- Application form completely filled out incl. eye test (eye test: if the last test was more than 2 years ago)
- Original CH ID
