Intensive course German as a second language (IK DaZ)
As a social institution, elementary school have an important role to play in the reception and integration of refugee children. The intensive German as a second language course (IK DaZ) is one of the measures to absorb newly arrived children and young people into the school system.
Pupils from different countries of origin learn in mixed-age groups; the youngest pupils are 8 and the oldest 17/18 years old. Children younger than 8 are immediately placed in a first grade or kindergarten in their place of residence.
In this course, which lasts 6 to 12 months, the children and young people learn the local language and receive lessons in other school subjects. They also learn a lot about the culture, country and people of Liechtenstein. The IK DaZ is based at the secondary schools in Triesen.
