Infrastructure operation
The Infrastructure Operations Division of the Office of Civil Engineering and Geospatial Information is responsible for the maintenance of main roads, bridges and tunnels that serve public and private transportation. All public roads not owned by the state are maintained by the respective site municipality.
The road maintenance work that arises must be carried out taking into account economic, ecological and social aspects. Two core tasks are derived from these specifications:
- Operational maintenance of roads, bridges and tunnels, in particular cleaning of roads, paths and squares, as well as organization and implementation of winter maintenance on main roads including sidewalks and country-owned bike paths.
- Constructional maintenance, i.e. repair and renewal of roads, bridges and tunnels
In addition to the core tasks of operational and structural road maintenance, the Infrastructure Operation department is repeatedly deployed to assist with major events such as national holidays, international football matches, Tour de Suisse, etc.. Within the administration, the employees are also available for transports of all kinds, train actions and various other jobs that require a lot of hands-on work.
