There are various reasons that speak for a safety-related design of the workplace. The main point is the avoidance of accidents, which can lead to injury of the employee, to great suffering of the injured person and their relatives as well as to high costs for the entrepreneur. Another important aspect is the prevention of occupational diseases and the general endeavor to ensure a hazard-free condition in the exercise of the profession. Basically, a subdivision can be made into economic, legal and humane reasons.

The most important concern of occupational safety is the protection of life and health of each employee in his professional activities. This idea of protection is found in the technical employee protection, construction employee protection, use-specific employee protection and health protection. The primary goal is the humanization of the working world.
Regulations for the protection of working people govern, for example:
- The use of dangerous machinery and tools
- The handling of hazardous working materials such as toxic or flammable chemicals
- Exposure to work processes and other agents such as noise
- Danger prevention equipment
- Instruction and investigations
- Design of workplaces, work rooms and sanitary facilities
- The working conditions of young workers and maternity protection
- Working hours and rest
The Department Supervision Working Conditions is responsible for the perception of employee protection concerns in technical and use-specific terms. This concerns in particular the following tasks: Enforcement of labor law, plan approval, advising companies in the areas of occupational safety and health protection, working hours and rest periods, special protection for young employees, pregnant women and nursing mothers, personal integrity (monitoring at the workplace, bullying, sexual harassment at work) Implementation and advice in the area of the Construction Site Coordination Act, inspection activities, construction site inspections, working time inspections and the issuance working time permits.
