Marriage

Marriage or the conclusion of a registered partnership is always a personal matter in which the individual situation of the bride and groom must be taken into account. For this reason, we have compiled some basic information about getting married in Liechtenstein for you below. We will be happy to provide you with further information and answer any detailed questions you may have.

In addition to the general requirements (e.g. age of majority), at least one of the following conditions must be met for a wedding ceremony to take place at the Civil Registry Office in Vaduz:

  • One or both of the bride and groom have Liechtenstein citizenship. The place of residence is not relevant.
  • One or both of the bride and groom have foreign citizenship but live in Liechtenstein.

The so-called marriage announcement always takes place before the wedding ceremony. In this meeting, important aspects (e.g. the name) and the procedure are discussed and clarified. Important: The definitive date for the wedding ceremony is only fixed at this meeting. This also applies if you have already pre-booked a wedding date online (see next section for details).

The following options are available to arrange an appointment with us for the wedding ceremony:

Weddings generally take place on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Civil Registry Office offers selected days with additional date options for each year. The following days have been defined for 2025:

  • Friday, 02.05.2025
  • Monday, 05.05.2025
  • Monday, 25.08.2025
  • Thursday, 25.09.2025

Due to the adjustments in the context of "marriage for all", there will be new possibilities for same-sex spouses from January 1, 2025. You can find the relevant information here.
