Admission and transfer / school careers

Pupils repeatedly experience changes during their school career. This includes the admission procedure from elementary school to a type of lower secondary school. Transfers within school types are also possible later on under certain conditions. It is also possible to transfer from a private school or foreign school to a public school.

Comprehensive and holistic assessment

In the fifth grade, teachers and parents are faced with the question of which type of secondary school is best suited to the individual child. Parents receive information about secondary schools at an information evening and are informed about the admissions process at a parents' evening at the school
The child should be neither under-challenged nor over-challenged, their talents and inclinations should be encouraged and they should be supported in overcoming any school difficulties. The class teacher can assess the child's likely further academic development on the basis of the various assessments. Based on the observations and assessments in learning, work and social behavior as well as the regular learning assessments in individual subjects and the performance level thus determined, the teacher recommends the child for a particular type of school. The parents inform the teacher of their allocation preference.

Decision in the admission procedure

If the parents and teacher agree, they jointly submit the statement drawn up in the allocation meeting to the Office of Education. If parents and teachers cannot agree on the allocation, the child can take a transfer exam. The Office of Education ultimately decides on all assignments.

2. transfer options at secondary level

Children and young people develop at different speeds, and it can always happen that individuals feel under or overtaxed. In this case, it is possible to benefit from the numerous transfer options and the permeability across all levels. It is important that learners feel comfortable and that they can be challenged and supported according to their own learning abilities.

The provisions on promotion and transfer at lower secondary level are set out in the Verordnung über die Aufnahme in die sowie die Promotion und den Übertritt auf der Sekundarstufe I, LGBl. 2001 Nr. 140 included. Articles 9 to 23 and 32 in particular are relevant for pupil assessment and the school report.
