Approval of road signalization and traffic regulations
When does a request need to be created?
Traffic signs
traffic signs, signs and directional signs on public roads may only be installed or removed if ordered by the Office of Civil Engineering and Geoinformation (for exceptions, see Art. 94 SSV).
Signalizations on private areas, in particular the signalization of a parking prohibition, are to be obtained in principle in the official prohibition procedure in accordance with art. 99ff Rechtssicherungs-Ordnung, LGBl. 1923 No. 8, with the municipality.
Excavation work in public space
For excavations in the public road space, the permit of the ATG (for main roads) or the municipality (for municipal roads) is required.
The Office of Civil Engineering and Geoinformation issues instructions to the construction companies for the signalization of the construction site (Art. 79ff SSV).
The excavation work may only be started after the permit and the traffic order of the ATG have been issued.

For the use of public land, for example by scaffolding, deposits or construction site installations, the permit of the Office of Civil Engineering and Geoinformation (for main roads) or the municipality (for municipal roads) is required.
The Office for Civil Engineering and Geoinformation issues instructions to the construction companies for the signalization of the construction site (Art. 79ff SSV).
The use of public land may only be commenced once the permit and the traffic order of the Office for Civil Engineering and Geoinformation have been issued.

Signals and markings, however, may be placed and removed only if the Office of Civil Engineering and Geoinformation has so ordered and the order is enforceable.
A signalization plan must always be attached to the application.
For signalization, barriers and lighting, the Road Signalization Ordinance (SSV) and the VSS standard SNV 640 886 are authoritative. In the case of temporary signalization, especially construction site signalization, it is important that these are regularly checked and accepted. The necessary acceptance protocol for signalizations is provided by the Office for Civil Engineering and Geoinformation
A fee of CHF 200 will be charged for the signalization permit. Further costs may be incurred by
- announcement of the order (costs are charged to applicants);
- for excavation work on main roads (except public pipelines) is charged by the Office of Civil Engineering and Geoinformation a fee of CHF 400 per m2 of pavement area (Art. 67 BauV). On municipal roads, the fee is determined by the respective municipality;
- for the use of public land on main roads by the Office of Civil Engineering and Geoinformation a fee of CHF 500 per month is charged (Art. 67 para 3 BauV). On municipal roads, the determination of the fee by the respective municipality.
Extension
Temporary signalizations can be extended upon request. A fee of CHF 50 will be charged. If the duration of the signalization including the extension exceeds 60 days, the signalization must be announced in accordance with Art. 97 SSV.
