Customs and origin
The Office of National Economy is responsible in the area of customs procedures in particular for the movement of goods to and from the EEA states. However, customs import, export and transit clearances continue to be handled - as provided for in the Customs Treaty of 1923 (LR 0.631.112) - by the Federal Customs Administration and in accordance with the provisions of Swiss customs law at all customs offices responsible for the movement of goods. Import and export clearances that do not concern the EEA remain the sole responsibility of the Federal Customs Administration (FCA), as before.
With the increasing globalization of the exchange of goods, the origin of goods and the rules of origin are becoming more and more important. With each free trade agreement (FTA) that the EFTA or Switzerland (CH) signs with a country - and which is consequently also adopted by Liechtenstein as an EFTA member or CH customs treaty partner - their importance increases further.
