Interpreter Permit
General
The licensing of interpreters and/or translators is carried out in accordance with the Law on the Licensing of Interpreters and Translators before Liechtenstein Courts and Administrative Authorities.
The Office of National Economy is responsible for issuing licenses according to the Law on the Admission of Interpreters and Translators before Liechtenstein Courts and Administrative Authorities
Authorization
The Office of Economic Affairs is responsible for issuing licenses. A prerequisite for licensing is a command of the German language as well as the relevant foreign language, both written and spoken.
Whoever is approved as an interpreter and/or translator receives an identity card from the Office of Economic Affairs. The ID card contains the first name and surname, the address and a photograph of the person admitted.
Whoever is entered on the list may add to his or her name the words "interpreter or translator admitted before Liechtenstein courts and administrative authorities" or "interpreter or translator admitted before Liechtenstein courts and administrative authorities".

The Office of National Economy maintains a list of interpreters and translators authorized before courts and administrative authorities. In the list, the interpreters and translators are listed separately according to the individual foreign languages, with their first and last names, as well as contact details (address, telephone, possibly e-mail).
List of interpreters and translators approved by the Office of National Economy
Prerequisites
A command of the German language as well as the relevant foreign language, both written and spoken, is a prerequisite. In this regard, the following are recognized as proof:
- training at a recognized school of interpreting and translation in the foreign language concerned followed by one year of professional experience immediately prior to admission;
- a university degree in a relevant language field and in the relevant language followed by three years of professional experience immediately prior to admission;
- a university degree in the relevant foreign language followed by five years of professional experience immediately prior to admission.
Application
The applicant must submit with the fully completed application relevant educational certificates, evidence of professional experience, 1 passport photo, as well as a current extract from the criminal and garnishment register (not older than three months and in the original) and a passport copy.
With the application, the applicant also confirms that he/she has the capacity to act, that his/her physical and mental aptitude is not impaired, that he/she lives in orderly economic circumstances and that he/she will always interpret and/or translate correctly and completely from German into the foreign language and from the foreign language into German to the best of his/her knowledge and belief, in accordance with Art. 4 of the Act.
The application is to be sent to the Office of National Economy, P.O. Box 684, 9490 Vaduz.
Fees
- CHF 200.- each for a permit to act as an interpreter and/or translator before Liechtenstein courts and administrative authorities
- CHF 200.- for the entry in the list of authorized interpreters and translators
