Quality commitment
The Office of Statistics is committed to the quality of its work. Users of statistics should be able to rely on the information provided by the Office of Statistics. They should receive relevant and accurate information as up-to-date as possible and at the announced time. This information should be generally accessible, clear, coherent and comparable.
Quality principles
In fulfilling its tasks, the Office of Statistics Liechtenstein is guided by European quality principles. These principles are laid down in the European Statistics Code of Practice for the National Statistical Authorities.
The Code of Practice comprises 16 statistical principles.
The statistical principles laid down in the Code of Practice have two objectives: Firstly, the Code of Practice aims to strengthen confidence in statistical offices by proposing various institutional and organizational measures, such as professional independence. Secondly, the Code of Practice aims to improve the quality of public statistics by promoting the uniform application of best international statistical principles, methods, and practices in Europe.
The statistical principles of the Code of Practice have been enshrined in the Liechtenstein Statistics Act since 2009.
Commitment on Confidence in Statistics
In February 2024, the government signed the "Commitment on Confidence". Thereby, the importance of relevant, reliable and consistent statistical information as a basis for decision-making for authorities, the economy and the public is recognized at a broad political level. In particular, the government guarantees
- the professional independence of the Office for Statistics;
- the quality of official statistics adhering to international and European quality principles for statistical data, in particular the principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice;
- adequate and sustainable means to ensure the quality and relevance of public statistics;
- access of the statistical office to administrative data, so that the respondent burden can be reduced;
- the rights of respondents and statistical confidentiality.
Quality guidelines
The Office of Statistics has drawn up quality guidelines to implement the statistical principles. The quality guidelines are intended describe the rules that must when producing statistical products in order to fulfill the quality commitment. They serve as guidelines for the employees in the Office of Statistics and help to ensure that the statistical products are of the desired quality.
