National Road Office (NRO)
The scope of duties and activities in the field of road transport is:
- A point of contact, information and advice for Liechtenstein citizens and external partners (garage owners, driving instructors, insurance companies, companies, etc.)
- issuance of learner's permits and driver's licenses
- Acceptance of theory and driving tests
- Issuance of vehicle registrations (vehicle passes and control plates)
- Technical inspection of motor vehicles and trailers
- issuance of special permits (transports with excess masses and driving permits despite driving bans)
- Issuing parking permits for persons with walking disabilities
- Administrative measures towards vehicle drivers and vehicle owners
- Administration of PSVA and LSVA, incl. representation in the Joint Committee of the Directorate General of Customs, Switzerland
- Representation of Liechtenstein in international expert bodies and working groups
- Maintenance of legal foundations and transfer of Swiss and EEA law into Liechtenstein law
