Implementation of the UID in Liechtenstein
Construction of the company identification number
The allocation of a UID is carried out by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) in Neuchâtel. As a result, companies based in Liechtenstein that receive a UID upon application are also integrated into the Swiss system and thus also receive a UID with a CHE prefix.
The twelve-digit UID consists of the three-digit prefix CHE and nine digits. The UID is assigned randomly and does not contain any information that allows conclusions to be drawn about the company (so-called "non-speaking number"). The last digit is a check digit (P). A company thus receives exactly one UID, which is unique and uniform.
UID Supplements (Suffix)
UIDs assigned to Liechtenstein companies do not receive any supplements (suffix)
The UID as a VAT number
Since January 1, 2014, the UID with the addition "MWST" (suffix) has replaced the former six-digit VAT number in Switzerland.
This adjustment does not apply in Liechtenstein.
Liechtenstein companies continue to retain the five-digit VAT No.
In the publication in the UID register, Liechtenstein companies are referred to by means of a link in the event of a commercial register entry. Publication in the UID register is recommended without reservation.
If you have any further questions on this subject, please contact the staff of the VAT Department of the Liechtenstein Tax Administration (STV).
The UID as a commercial register number
Since January 1, 2014, the UID with the addition of "HR" (suffix) has replaced the former eleven-digit commercial register number in Switzerland.
This adjustment does not apply in Liechtenstein. The current Liechtenstein commercial register number remains valid.
When publication in the UID register is displayed for Liechtenstein companies, a standard note concerning the VAT provisions valid in Liechtenstein is displayed. Publication is recommended without reservation.
If you have any further questions on this subject, please contact the staff of the Liechtenstein Commercial Register at the Office of Justice (AJU).
