Kindergarten

Kindergarten is the traditional form of pre-school education. Children must have reached the age of four by the time they start kindergarten. Attendance at kindergarten is free of charge. Kindergarten complements and supports the education and upbringing of the child in the family. The child's development is supported holistically. The curriculum for the Principality of Liechtenstein is binding for the kindergarten. Particular emphasis is placed on social education and personality development, language, mathematics, sensory and movement training, musical and rhythmic education as well as the creative field.

Generally, kindergarten attendance lasts two years. The second year of kindergarten is compulsory for children with a non-German mother tongue.

Registration for kindergarten takes place with enrolment in kindergarten. The enrolment date is announced in the national newspapers, in the municipal channel, in the national channel and in the official gazette of the Liechtenstein National Administration (www.amtsblatt.llv.li). In addition, parents will receive an information letter with the enrollment form at the end of February. The form must be completed and returned to the school management of the municipality of residence by the enrolment deadline.

Learners with school difficulties are supported as part of special educational measures or increased special educational measures (special education).

Further information on starting kindergarten can be found in the brochure "Starting kindergarten - information for parents".
