Disabilities

A disability is a functional impairment that exists from birth or has resulted from illness or accident. The associated limitations can be manifold. Affected people have special needs. 

The Disability Equality Actimproves the basis for the integration of people with disabilities. The improvements relate in particular to easier access to buildings and facilities, adjustments in public transport and other adapted services of the community (work, education, communication). The Office for the Equality of Persons with Disabilities at the Liechtenstein Association of Persons with Disabilities is the contact point when it comes to official services (subsidies, complaints, etc.).

The following institutions offer specific services for assistance:

The Help Education Center offers a wide range of counseling, support and assistance services. In addition to education and education include diagnostics, therapy, vocational employment, as well as housing options.

The Liechtensteiner Behindertenverband offers another wide spectrum of support. Its services range from representation in legal and insurance matters to construction counseling, sports for the disabled and wheelchair transport services to financial assistance. The home emergency telephone of the regional hospital (organized as a contact point, carried out by ARGUS) is mediated.

The Family Help Liechtenstein and the Lebenshilfe Balzers offer a relief service for families. Furthermore, there are, among others, the self-help group "unanders" for families with disabled children, a foundation for the promotion of physically disabled gifted children, the Deaf Cultural Association Liechtenstein, the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists and the Leisure Group Albatros of the Liechtenstein Association for the Disabled.
