Heat and health

Protection during heat waves

Climate change is already influencing temperatures and weather events. Rising temperatures put a strain on health, especially in summer. For young children, the elderly, pregnant women and the chronically ill in particular, heat can pose a health risk or exacerbate existing illnesses such as cardiovascular, respiratory, kidney or mental illnesses. Exhaustion or heatstroke can also increase as a result of heat.

Where do I get information?

Many institutions are aware of the importance of the issue and are already doing a lot to inform people and protect them from extreme heat. In order to reach the general public, the Office of Public Health has created the website www.hitze.li (information in German only) as part of its health promotion activities.

What information can I find?

This new website provides information on the topic of heat and health as well as flyers and posters. These can be downloaded from the website or can be ordered from the Office of Public Health.

Heat is a serious threat to human health. Together, heat-related health damage can be prevented. Protect yourself and others when it's hot outside, because: “Heat affects us all!”
