Pipeline extension and road Road maintenance in Herrengasse in Vaduz
As part of the expansion of the district heating and cooling network in the municipality of Vaduz, Liechtenstein Wärme will construct the necessary pipelines in Herrengasse in 2024. In order to exploit synergies, the municipality of Vaduz and Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke will also renew their pipelines in this context. At the same time, the Principality of Liechtenstein will renovate the main road and construct new verges and surfacing. This coordinated approach means that the construction time can be reduced to a minimum and this important road link for the Principality of Liechtenstein can then be used again for a long time without any major structural obstructions.
During the construction work, the following construction measures will be carried out in detail:
- District heating and cooling lines: Liechtenstein Wärme will extend its district heating and cooling network along the entire length of Herrengasse, i.e. from the turn-off to Hintergass to Adlerkreisel. The gas pipes will also be laid at the same time.
- Water mains: The municipality of Vaduz will rebuild the sewage and water main pipes as well as all property connections along the entire section.
- Electricity and communication lines: As part of the construction work, Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke will optimize and expand its grid infrastructure. This involves expanding the existing power lines on the one hand and optimizing the communication infrastructure on the other. The street lighting will also be completely renewed. Where possible, the pendant lights will be replaced by free-standing candelabras with LED lights.
- Road construction: The Principality of Liechtenstein will renew the road infrastructure, kerbs, road drainage and surfacing along the entire project perimeter from Hintergass to Adler.
VTraffic regime during the construction phase
Herrengasse is a highly frequented country road. For this reason, the construction period should be kept as short as possible. Accordingly, the construction site from the Adler traffic circle and Hintergasse will be tackled by two groups at the same time. Where appropriate and necessary, the work will be carried out from 6 am to 10 pm. Road crossings will be carried out at night. During the construction period, it must be ensured that motorized private transport, public transport as well as pedestrian and bicycle traffic function properly.
To ensure this, traffic will be routed as follows:
- Individual motorized traffic: Traffic in the direction of Schaan will be routed through the construction site in one lane. Traffic in the direction of Triesen will be routed in one lane via the Lochgass - Rheindamm - Rheinstrasse - Zollstrasse axis. This means that the Rheindamm and Lochgass will be one lane southbound during the construction work. Heavy goods vehicles and tourist buses will be diverted via the A13 freeway.
- Public transport: Bus traffic in the direction of Schaan will be routed through the construction site in one lane, just like motorized traffic. Public bus traffic in the direction of Triesen will be diverted via Egertastrasse. Egertastrasse will also be one-way traffic during the construction period and is reserved for residents and public transport.Pedestrian and cycle traffic: Pedestrian and cycle traffic will be secured locally or diverted on a small scale during the construction period. The signalization on site must be observed. Pedestrian and cycle traffic in the Rheindamm area will be routed via Binnendamm and Haberfeldweg.
Schedule
The work on the utility lines was completed in December 2024. Two lanes of Herrengasse will be reopened to traffic from Wednesday, 18 December at 14:00.
In 2025, one lane in Herrengasse will have to be closed again for the paving and surfacing work as well as for the completion work on Herrengasse and the bypass routes will have to be reactivated. The date for the resumption of construction work depends on the weather and will be announced in good time.
The Principality of Liechtenstein, the Municipality of Vaduz, Liechtenstein Wärme and Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke would like to thank all road users and residents for their understanding and patience during the construction work.
