Career choice preparation
Career choice preparation begins in the first year of secondary school. Pupils at upper and intermediate secondary schools assess their own needs, abilities and skills in comparison with the requirements and characteristics of the professional world. This enables them to plan their further education and entry into working life. They should also recognize that gainful employment and leisure activities complement each other and are essential parts of a positive lifestyle.
Teachers are sensitized to break the link between professions and gender roles and to identify possible alternatives. To ensure that students can make the best possible transition into the world of work, the main focus is on promoting their skills.
Teachers seek cooperation between all those involved, pupils, parents, teachers and careers advisors. Parents in particular are involved at an early stage so that pupils can engage with their career choices in a continuous and consistent manner. Cooperation with the careers guidance service is focused on the third and fourth grades. Teachers coordinate the planning and implementation of activities such as information events, brief consultations and individual consultations with the careers guidance service.
