European Statistics Code of Practice
In fulfilling its tasks, the Office of Statistics has to follow the European Statistics Code of Practice, the statistical principles of the European Statistical System, in accordance with the Statistics Act. The Code of Practice is also part of the EEA Agreement. The 16 principles of the Code of Practice include, in particular, the professional independence of the statistical authority, statistical confidentiality, and the objectivity, accuracy and accessibility of statistics. Other important principles include quality commitment, sound methodology, and appropriate statistical procedures.
Statistical Commission
The Statistics Commission is appointed by the Government for a term of office of four years. The Statistics Commission has the task of advising the Government and the Office of Statistics on important issues relating to public statistics. In particular, it must assess the multi-year program and amendments to the Statistics Act and the associated ordinances and draw up proposals for the further development of public statistics. The Statistics Commission consists of eight members, made up of representatives of the municipalities and the associations as well as experts.
