Liechtenstein is supporting the "Windows for Ukraine" project of the Swiss association RE-WIN by financing the transportation of windows with up to CHF 75,000.
Through the project, windows that are no longer needed are collected in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, transported to Ukraine and reinstalled in residential buildings.
Countless houses in the war zone are uninhabitable, partly because of destroyed windows. Such houses no longer offer residents any protection from the cold, rain and other threats. At the same time, building materials, including many windows, are dismantled and disposed of every day in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. These high-quality windows are often still intact before demolition and could be reinstalled and reused in other buildings, also in the interests of sustainability and circular economy.
Liechtenstein's support will enable the removal, storage, transportation and reinstallation of up to 1800 windows. The windows can provide around 750 families with a sheltered home again. Liechtenstein already supported the project last year and made it possible to transport and rebuild 1360 windows from Switzerland and Liechtenstein to Ukraine. Window donations from companies and private individuals are collected at the Eastern Switzerland / Liechtenstein collection center in Buchs SG.
