As part of the preparations for the national elections in February 2025, a team of experts from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) visited Liechtenstein on November 13 and 14. As is customary in other OSCE participating states, the purpose of this visit was to assess whether international election observation is required. The aim of the ODIHR is to promote free and fair elections throughout the OSCE area while upholding key democratic principles such as political pluralism, transparency and media freedom.
During their stay in Vaduz, the experts met with representatives of the government, administration, political parties, media, civil society and other stakeholders involved in the electoral process. Comparable needs assessments had already taken place before the 2009, 2017 and 2021 parliamentary elections, although the ODIHR decided not to send election observers in each case.
