Liechtenstein supports the research work of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) with CHF 70,000, thereby making a significant contribution to the evidence-based fight against human trafficking.
Liechtenstein has supported the LBI-GMR research focus since 2020, which comprises three areas of work: Research work, the dissemination of the legal commentary on the Human Trafficking Convention and networking with international state and non-state actors. In 2023, the focus was particularly on child trafficking and digitalisation. The LBI-GMR analysed open questions on digital evidence and human rights-based investigative approaches. Important events such as the symposium ‘User-generated content and human trafficking’ led to concrete, evidence-based recommendations for action for practitioners. With regard to the dissemination of the legal commentary on the Human Trafficking Convention, the LBI-GMR presented it at the GRETA anniversary conference in March 2024, which was very well received. As part of the implementation of the third priority area, the LBI-GMR is focussing on networking with international actors.
