Support for people suffering from hunger in Sudan

Due to the worsening food crisis in Sudan, Liechtenstein is making a contribution of CHF 100,000 to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) for its food aid in Sudan.

Since the outbreak of violent conflict in Sudan on April 15, 2023, almost 25 million people in the country have been dependent on humanitarian aid, including around 14 million children. This corresponds to more than half of the total population. The number of people suffering from acute food insecurity is particularly worrying. Around 18 million people are in a food crisis or emergency situation. As most of them are in areas of active fighting, they have no or only very limited access to food.

The WFP is providing food aid for 4.6 million people in Sudan in 2024. Special support is also being provided to children and pregnant and breastfeeding women with nutritional supplements for the treatment and prevention of malnutrition. As the crisis in Sudan receives little media attention, it is difficult for the WFP and other aid organizations on the ground to obtain sufficient financial resources. Liechtenstein can therefore make an important contribution with its support.
