Liechtenstein is supporting an emergency aid project by Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) in Kenya with 44,740 Swiss francs to help address the aftermath of the heavy rainfall and flash floods.
In the spring, heavy rainfall and flash floods claimed over 100 lives in Kenya. More than 150,000 people were displaced, and nearly 191,000 people across the country are still affected by the consequences of the severe weather. The flash floods caused loss of life, property damage, and service disruptions in the counties of Nairobi, Makueni, West Pokot, and Machakos.
Through the MAF emergency aid project, Liechtenstein is supporting the use of MAF aircraft to transport aid organizations between Nairobi and the affected communities in Kenya. Various NGO partners are offered subsidized flights to enable them to deliver relief supplies, essential materials, and supporting personnel to affected communities and displaced people. Additionally, these flights are used to transport patients who urgently need medical care and are particularly vulnerable or in need of protection, especially women and children.
