SOS Children's Villages Liechtenstein is receiving a contribution of 100,000 Swiss francs to support an emergency relief project in Tigray, Ethiopia.
The humanitarian situation in Ethiopia remains extremely critical in 2024. Tigray is a region in Ethiopia that was recently devastated by war and subsequent siege. Although the two-year war ended with a ceasefire agreement in November 2022, families and children remain displaced, traumatized, and living in a post-war crisis. The war also destroyed health and educational infrastructure. All these circumstances pose a great burden on the society affected by the conflict.
With the financial support of this project, Liechtenstein is contributing to providing 171 highly vulnerable households (855 people, including 111 women) with access to adequate daily food supplies. In addition, 1,256 children and adolescents (850 girls, 406 boys) affected by trauma will receive access to MHPSS services (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services). In the education sector, the project aims to improve the retention rates and academic performance of 3,435 children (1,763 girls, 1,672 boys) affected by the war.
Due to years of work in Ethiopia, the organization is well connected on the ground and, accordingly, has good access in many places to provide emergency relief services.
