The education indicators in the 2022/2023 reporting year are largely in line with previous years. The 3,458 schoolchildren in compulsory education in Liechtenstein experienced a rather low ratio of 9.6 schoolchildren per teacher (FTE) in elementary school, as well as 7.8 in lower secondary school. 51% of the 4-year-old population was already enrolled in elementary education (ISCED 0). On the other side of the compulsory school years, 77.2% of 18-year-olds were in education (year 2020/2021).
There were no major leaps in spending on education either. In the financial year, the state and municipalities spent CHF 11.9 million, or just under 1% of public expenditure, on basic vocational education. Overall, public expenditure on education accounted for 15.9% of total public expenditure.
