H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois attended the Ludwig Erhard Summit in Bavaria on May 3 and 4, 2023. The LEG is hosted by the Weimer Media Group and serves to network the German media landscape with high-ranking representatives of German-speaking politics and the Economic Affairs Division. This year, the summit focused, among other things, on the energy transition, in times of uncertain geopolitical developments. It also explored the question of whether a new, German economic miracle is emerging after the crisis and war. Thus, on the first day of the summit, the focus was on economic metatrends such as new technologies, how these are revolutionizing the economy in Germany and how Germany's economy can be made sustainable, resilient and, above all, competitive.

The second day of the summit was themed "Science and Innovation" and began with the key note speech of the Hereditary Prince and the subsequent conversation with the publisher Götz-Weimer, in which he addressed Liechtenstein's role as a diversified small state with a strong European orientation. He also referred to the framework conditions for research and innovation in Liechtenstein, pointing to the pronounced entrepreneurship and agility of the business community in Liechtenstein. At the same time, he emphasized the need, as a small state, to deploy its resources in a very targeted manner and to precisely define its core tasks, also with regard to the type of research funding. Finally, he also emphasized the importance of neighborly relations, especially in times of upheaval, as well as Liechtenstein's contribution to a secure and solidary Europe.

The head of state took advantage of the high-level conference to hold numerous bilateral talks, including with CDU Chairman Friedrich Merz, CDU Deputy Federal Chairman Carsten Linnemann (CDU), Green Party Co-Chair Ricarda Lang, Bavarian Parliament President Ilse Aigner and numerous high-ranking business representatives and representatives. The hereditary prince was accompanied by a delegation consisting of the Liechtenstein ambassador in Berlin (Isabel Frommelt) and Liechtenstein representatives of the industry and the financial center.

Prominent speakers at this year's Ludwig Erhard Summit included German Finance Minister Christian Lindner, SPD leader Lars Klingbeil, Green Party leader Ricarda Lang, opposition leader and CDU leader Friedrich Merz, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder, Bavarian Digital Minister Judith Gerlach and Minister of Economy Hubert Aiwanger, fresenius CEO Michael Sen, Audi CEO Markus Duesmann, Meta Europe CEO Angelika Gifford, Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing, Morgan Stanley CEO Oliver Behrens, German Red Cross President Gerda Hasselfeldt, Flatexdegiro CEO Frank Niehage, Robert Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung and Lieutenant General and Inspector General of the Army Alfons Mais.

Under the umbrella of Liechtenstein Finance and Liechtenstein Marketing, numerous Liechtenstein economic players also took advantage of the meeting of these high-ranking opinion leaders to exchange views on current developments and issues in politics, the Economic Affairs Division and science. The financial center, which is focused on sustainability, as well as the innovative business location were able to position themselves even more: Roland Schubert, Board of Directors of LGT Bank AG, discussed in a panel with other prominent industry representatives how to manage sustainably in these very stormy times and where our money will flow to in the next generation. Alexander Ospelt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ospelt Group, debated, among others, with the former German Federal Minister of Agriculture, Julia Klöckner, about the challenge of making basic services sustainable and crisis-resistant.
