On Wednesday and Thursday, October 16 and 17, 2024, Prime Minister Daniel Risch was in Germany for various appearances, working meetings and media appointments.
Following his participation in the Smart Country Convention (SCOON) in Berlin on Wednesday, Prime Minister Risch was in Hamburg and Kiel on Wednesday evening and Thursday. In Hamburg, Risch met with the First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, for working talks. In the city-state of Hamburg, the position of First Mayor corresponds to that of Prime Minister. The talks focused on relations between Liechtenstein and Hamburg as well as developments in the Port of Hamburg and the political and Economic Affairs Division situation in Germany. At the invitation of "Salon Textor", an initiative of Nils Haupt, Head of Corporate Communications at Hapag-Lloyd, Daniel Risch gave a keynote speech and subsequent Q&A session to introduce selected guests from Hamburg's Economic Affairs Division and cultural life to Liechtenstein.
Prime Minister Daniel Risch also used his stay in Hamburg for background discussions with representatives of the German media at a press breakfast. This took place at the invitation of the President of the Hamburg Press Club, Jörn Lauterbach. Topics discussed included Liechtenstein's integration and position in Europe, migration, the Liechtenstein financial center and the economic situation. A short visit to Miniatur Wunderland - Germany's most visited tourist attraction - was also on the agenda. Prime Minister Risch held an informal meeting with Sebastian Drechsler, the "Minister of Foreign Affairs" of the world's largest model railway installation in the port city of Hamburg, in which Switzerland and Austria have found a place - but Liechtenstein has not yet.
The visit to Germany concluded on Thursday afternoon with an exchange with the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther, in Kiel. The meeting focused on the security policy and economic situation in Schleswig-Holstein and Liechtenstein, the partnership and current European and International Affairs challenges.
