Liechtenstein's efforts to combat violations of international criminal law 2024

The NGO “Justice Rapid Response” (JRR) will receive a contribution of CHF 200,000 in 2024. The main task of JRR is to train and provide experts for criminal investigations into suspected war crimes, crimes against humanity or serious human rights violations.

JRR operates a so-called pool of experts for this purpose. This is the only global mechanism that has over 750 rapidly deployable experts in a variety of international criminal justice and human rights professions (investigators, sexual and gender-based violence experts, forensic experts, child rights experts and other legal experts, open source investigators, military analysts, medical experts, pathologists, psychosocial experts and prosecutors).

Practically all new accountability mechanisms mandated by the international community in recent years rely on JRR experts. These currently include the UN Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Libya, the UN Independent Investigative Mechanism on Myanmar and investigations by the International Criminal Court. Last year alone, JRR was able to contribute to a total of 115 investigations. By providing highly qualified experts, JRR helps to ensure that investigations can be conducted objectively, thoroughly and effectively. This strengthens the credibility of justice systems and promotes accountability. Liechtenstein has been working closely with JRR since 2013.
