Liechtenstein supports social institutions in Austria affected by flooding

As a gesture of neighbourly solidarity, Liechtenstein is supporting the reconstruction of two Caritas Austria social facilities in Lower Austria with a total of 100,000 Swiss francs.

In September, many regions in Austria, particularly Lower Austria, were hit by heavy rainfall and flooding. These extreme weather conditions not only caused considerable material damage to infrastructure, residential buildings and agricultural land, but also caused great human suffering. The destruction had a massive impact on the lives of the affected population and led to considerable material losses as well as numerous injuries and some deaths.

As a sign of solidarity with Austria and the affected regions, Liechtenstein is making a contribution totalling 100,000 Swiss francs to help repair the resulting damage. This support will be used for two projects for the reconstruction of Caritas facilities in Lilienfeld (residential home for people with disabilities) and Zwettl (sports facilities at a school). Both communities have suffered greatly from the floods and are in urgent need of reconstruction work on their homes and sports facilities Supporting this reconstruction work will ensure that the affected communities regain access to essential social services and facilities that are vital to their well-being and safety

This solidarity contribution emphasises the close friendly relations between Liechtenstein and Austria The Liechtenstein and Austrian authorities are working closely together in many areas. In this context, it is particularly important that Liechtenstein supports the areas most affected by the floods with a financial contribution.
