This year, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) program for people with dis-abilities and mine action will once again receive a contribution of CHF 150’000 from Liechtenstein.
In many countries, mines, cluster munitions and explosive remnants of war continue to threaten the daily existence of a large part of the population. The ICRC addresses this issue by supporting those affected through its "Special Appeal Disability and Mine Action". The associated projects promote, among other things, the physical rehabilitation of mine victims and people with disabilities in conflict zones and implement concrete measures to reduce the risk posed by mines. These include training on safer behaviors and practices in mine-contaminated areas, collaboration with national authorities responsible for mine clearance and raising public awareness about the danger of mines.
As a Contracting State to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (commonly known as the Ottawa Convention), Liechtenstein supports global efforts in mine clearance and victim assistance with this contribution.
