As part of Liechtenstein's International Humanitarian Cooperation and Development (IHCD), Liechtenstein traditionally supports a number of Council of Europe projects. In 2024, the projects focus primarily on the promotion on “good governance”, i.e. the promotion of good governance based on human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
This year, the action plans of the Council of Europe for Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine are being supported by Liechtenstein with CHF 20,000 each. The action plan for Georgia focuses on improving the independence, accountability and efficiency of the judicial system and supporting reforms in criminal law and the penal system. In Armenia, the action plan's main focus is on harmonizing and implementing Council of Europe standards and improving human rights standards for people in prisons. The action plan for Ukraine was revised to the country's new needs after Russia's aggression and now also includes support for the authorities in dealing with the direct consequences of the war on human rights and the displacement of the population.
A contribution of CHF 20,000 is furthermore made to the platform for the safety of journalists. The platform documents and analyzes violations of freedom of expression and thus makes an important contribution to better protection for media professionals.
