Liechtenstein is seeking a new representative for the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) of the Council of Europe.
The ECRI is an independent body of the Council of Europe dedicated to combating racism, discrimination, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and intolerance in the 46 member states. Its main tasks include monitoring and analysing developments in these areas, drawing up recommendations for member states and monitoring the implementation of international standards. ECRI regularly issues recommendations that not only concern legal measures, but also promote education and awareness-raising programmes. These are intended to raise public awareness of the negative consequences of racism and intolerance.
Requirements
Candidates should have a high moral authority and proven expertise in dealing with racism, discrimination, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and intolerance. The mandate is exercised independently and impartially. The election is based on the Resolution (2002)8 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The ECRI member is nominated by the Liechtenstein government and appointed by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the proposal of the Secretary General for a term of five years (renewable twice).
Tasks
The ECRI member takes part in multi-day meetings three times a year and participates in monitoring visits to the member states. It contributes to the preparation of reports and recommendations for the improvement of national measures and fulfils its mandate independently. In co-operation with authorities and NGOs, the member is committed to the effective implementation of ECRI recommendations.
For these assignments, a daily allowance is granted by the Council of Europe and remuneration is paid by the Principality of Liechtenstein.
Application process and contact
Applicants who are Liechtenstein citizens, resident in Liechtenstein or otherwise closely connected to Liechtenstein and have a very good command of English or French are requested to submit their applications in electronic form to the Office for Foreign Affairs ([email protected], subject ECRI) by 23 December 2024.
