Liechtenstein will continue supporting the emergency relief fund of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) with a contribution of CHF 200,000 in 2024.
In crisis situations, the WFP is often the first point of contact for the supply of urgently needed food. In order to be able to act quickly in such situations, the WFP relies on the Immediate Response Account (IRA), which is used to finance emergency relief operations by means of loans or grants. With its contribution to the IRA, Liechtenstein helps to ensure that the WFP can continue to respond quickly and flexibly to food and hunger crises.
The WFP estimates that around 345 million people in 79 countries suffered from acute food insecurity in 2023 and were in urgent need of support. For 2024, the WFP plans to reach a total of 157 million people in 88 country programs.
