Joint control of foot rot: national action to improve sheep health

On October 1, 2024, the nationwide control of sheep bunt, a contagious and painful disease that affects sheep, begins.

The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) has developed the various steps of the control program in collaboration with the cantonal veterinary services and the most important players in the industry. The aim of this strategic initiative is to reduce the number of farms affected by foot-and-mouth disease to less than one percent in a maximum of five years. This will make it possible to improve sheep welfare and support sheep farmers. This disease is not dangerous for humans.
