Improved integration of the least developed countries into the global trade system 2024

Liechtenstein is supporting the “Enhanced Integrated Framework” (EIF) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) for the first time with CHF 40,000. The EIF supports the least developed WTO member countries (LDCs) through analytical work and capacity-building projects.

Currently 51 of the poorest countries participate in the EIF. These countries can use the EIF as an instrument to mobilize additional resources for Aid for Trade. The EIF coordinates trade analyses and supports the creation of national implementing agencies to promote trade strategies in the least developed countries. For example, the EIF supports projects in Nepal (pashmina), Senegal (mango) and Samoa (coconut). In Vanuatu, the EIF facilitated the introduction of an electronic customs system, which significantly reduced customs clearance times. With the EIF's support, Liechtenstein is helping to ensure that trade can be used more effectively for sustainable development and poverty reduction.
