Liechtenstein is supporting the aid program of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen with a contribution of CHF 100,000.
Yemen remains one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. Over half of the population, 17.6 million people, are dependent on humanitarian aid and are threatened by severe hunger. This includes 5 million malnourished children and 2.7 million pregnant and breastfeeding women. A large part of the population lacks food and other basic goods. In addition, severe flooding frequently disrupts water and electricity supplies in many communities, as was the case at the end of March 2024, displacing many people and destroying livelihoods.
Despite difficult conditions and risks for humanitarian actors on the ground, the ICRC is providing humanitarian aid to people affected by the conflict in Yemen. Family reunions, prisoner visits and efforts to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law are also a fundamental part of the ICRC's activities in Yemen. The ICRC also strengthens the resilience of people in conflict areas, e.g. by increasing their food production and income. It also supports infrastructure in the areas of water, health and electricity in the areas most affected by the fighting.
