Erbprinzenpaar at meeting of German-speaking heads of state in Potsdam
The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier invited to a meeting of the heads of state of the German-speaking countries in Potsdam on Monday, 28 and Tuesday, 29 June 2021. Other participants included the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the King of the Belgians, the Federal Presidents of Austria and Switzerland, and Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein.
The annual exchange between the heads of state serves to maintain good relations as well as to deepen a number of issues of particular importance to these countries. After a meeting was not possible in 2020 due to a pandemic, the heads of state and their wives were able to meet in the capital of Brandenburg under a strict protection concept.
The heads of state first exchanged views on current political developments in their respective states. Here, the debate focused in particular on the social consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Another key topic of the talks was a socially acceptable and sustainable climate policy. After a presentation by the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, the guests discussed the social acceptance and implementation of the climate neutrality targeted for the coming decades. H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois provided information on current political developments in Liechtenstein and, with regard to climate policy, referred in particular to the Climate Vision and Energy Vision 2050 and the associated strategy for implementing the goals by the end of this decade.
In 2022, the meeting of German-speaking heads of state will take place in Liechtenstein. H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois has accordingly already announced an invitation for the coming year.
Before the official program, the hereditary prince and princess visited the Prussian palaces and gardens in Potsdam and met various decision-makers and personalities from politics, science, culture and medicine during a dinner at the Liechtenstein residence
