The worst economic crisis in Lebanon's recent history is not only hitting the local population hard, but also the approximately 1.5 million Syrian refugees. UNHCR is providing important support, which is why Liechtenstein is making a contribution of 100,000 Swiss francs.
Lebanon is facing a historic challenge: the ongoing economic crisis has almost paralysed the country's infrastructure. Syrian refugees are particularly affected, with more than half of them living in catastrophic conditions. A lack of access to healthcare, education and legal support is exacerbating the humanitarian emergency.
Thanks to limited but targeted funding, UNHCR was able to achieve important successes in 2023, including legal aid for over 85,000 people and cash assistance for 75% of refugees. However, the situation remains precarious. With this contribution, Liechtenstein can make a decisive contribution to meeting the most urgent needs and alleviating Lebanon's burden.
