Liechtenstein will continue to support the UN Trust Fund for Mine Action (United Nations Mine Action Service, UNMAS) in 2024 with a contribution of 25,000 Swiss Francs.
In many countries, mines continue to pose a daily threat to a large portion of the population and represent a humanitarian catastrophe. UNMAS provides direct support and assistance to 20 countries, territories, and missions. In 2023, UNMAS conducted 21 mine clearance programs worldwide, neutralizing approximately 137,299 explosive remnants of war and 2,820 landmines. This enabled the securing of 419 kmĀ² of land and 121 km of roads. With the financial support of UNMAS, Liechtenstein contributes to this vital humanitarian work.
