Liechtenstein is supporting the aid programme of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Lebanon with a contribution of CHF 100,000.
Lebanon has been facing a severe humanitarian crisis for years, which has been significantly exacerbated by political and economic instability, the Syrian conflict and the influx of millions of refugees since 2011. Since October 2023, the renewed escalation of hostilities has further worsened the already fragile situation in the country. The ICRC estimates that over one million people have been displaced within the country's borders, while the Lebanese population is increasingly affected by inflation, food shortages and the collapse of critical infrastructures. Despite this grave situation, the crisis has received little international attention.
The ICRC is working in Lebanon to protect the civilian population and ensure access to essential goods and services. It supports health facilities, provides emergency shelter and drinking water and works closely with the Lebanese Red Cross to meet humanitarian needs. In addition, the ICRC works to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law and is committed to protecting prisoners and preventing family separations.
