Investment intentions fall in all areas
In the first quarter of 2024, the Office of Building Construction and Spatial Planning issued 161 building permits with planned construction costs totaling CHF 49.8 million. Compared to the average for the comparative period, which covers the previous three years or 12 quarters, the number of permits and the planned construction costs fell sharply. The number of projects was 25% below the average for the comparative period, while the planned construction costs were 63% below the average for the comparative period.
Planned investments fell by CHF 74.6 million to CHF 49.8 million in the quarter under review compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. In the infrastructure (-90%), industry and services (-92%) and agriculture and forestry (-94%) sectors, planned construction costs were significantly below the average for the comparative period of the last 12 quarters. In the residential sector, planned construction costs were 37% below the average for the comparative period.
