Today's Number Day looks at the question of how many new fossil fuel firing systems are being installed and how many are being replaced by a fossil fuel firing system, i.e. installed as so-called replacement systems.
An answer to this question is provided by the Office of Environment's combustion register. This records firing systems that burn fossil fuels such as natural gas or heating oil for heating purposes. The register is recorded and updated as part of the annual combustion inspections. The results show a trend towards more environmentally friendly heating systems, as the number of new and replacement fossil-fuel heating systems installed is declining. Replacements of fossil-fuel heating systems with new technologies such as heat pumps or district heating cannot be identified based on the data recorded in the combustion register
