FAQ for participation in the ESC
The European Statistics Competition takes place in two phases. The national phase is organized by the Liechtenstein Office of Statistics. There are two parts to this. One day, closed and open questions on statistical methods, and a topic are answered in a team (open book) using the publications available online. At the end of this first part, the topic for the second part is announced. The task is to write a technical article (prov.) on this topic. The first and second place team from the national phase will be allowed to participate in the international phase, where a 2-minute video will be submitted.
All students of the 8th, 9th and 10th grade of a Liechtenstein school.
The competition takes place exclusively during free time.
Except for one day in January and the award ceremony, there are no attendance hours or days. Participants organize a workplace on their own.
In addition to one day of attendance, the competition includes independent work in a team. In particular, participation in the international phase requires some of the participants' free time. However, this depends heavily on the commitment and size of the team.
For the first three places there is a total prize money of CHF 900. This is awarded as a lump sum per team, graded according to rank.
