Energy consumption decreases
Total energy consumption fell by 7.0% to 1,148,866 MWh in 2022. Per capita consumption decreased by 2.5 MWh to 29.0 MWh.
Compared to the previous year, petrol consumption fell by 11.0% and diesel consumption by 7.3%. Electricity consumption fell by 2.0%. Biogas fell by 18.0%, natural gas consumption by 16.0% and district heating from waste by 7.5%. Sales of heating oil in Liechtenstein fell by 10.5%. The energy source wood increased by 21.4%.The share of energy supply from domestic energy resources in the total energy supply increased from 12.6% to 13.0% in 2022. Energy generation from domestic resources amounted to 149,176 MWh.
According to Liechtenstein Wärme, the price of natural gas for households and small businesses was 10.9 centimes per kWh at the end of 2022 (excluding CO2 levy, VAT and grid usage). In the previous year, the price was still 4.9 centimes per kWh.
