Requirements for entering Liechtenstein

Switzerland and Liechtenstein generally have the same entry requirements. The regulations concerning persons requiring visas are largely identical. (see Ordinance on Entry and Visa Procedures of December 9, 2008, SR 152.204). Deviating regulations based on bilateral or multilateral agreements remain reserved.

Visa requirements for entering Liechtenstein

Individuals requiring a visa can submit an application to the Swiss representation in their country of residence. The decision on the request lies partly with the Swiss authorities and partly with the Migration and Passport Office. To determine whether you need a visa, please visit the website of the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration or check the Liechtenstein Law Gazette LGBl. 2008 No 315.

Entering other countries

If you are interested in the entry requirements for other countries, please consult a travel agency or the embassy of the country you plan to enter.

Staying in Liechtenstein

The website of the Migration and Passport Office describes the various options for living or working in Liechtenstein. All relevant permits are issued by the Migration and Passport Office.

Registration of Liechtenstein nationals abroad

Liechtenstein citizens residing abroad for longer than 12 months should register with the relevant diplomatic or consular representation to ensure they receive consular assistance in emergency situations. Generally speaking, in places where Liechtenstein does not have its own representation, Switzerland represents Liechtenstein's interests on the basis of an agreement dating to 1919. If Switzerland is not represented either, the respective Austrian representations will assist Liechtenstein nationals. Liechtenstein nationals should appear in person at the relevant representation and identify themselves by means of a passport. If a personal visit is not possible, the necessary forms and documents can be ordered by phone or obtained online. By registering abroad, matters such as changes in civil status or applying for travel documents can be dealt with more easily. In emergency situations such as natural disasters or terrorist attacks, having registered helps local authorities make contact quickly, search for missing persons or provide immediate assistance.
